Ruminations. At the base of the Eiger in summer 2007.
I think a lot, and analyse too much (maybe). Fortunately I’ve found a career in thinking and analysing, working as a Performance and Quality Manager in an IT shop.
My cousin asked me today, what is it that you actually do? I define metrics that measure the organisation’s performance against their strategic goals. I coach managers in ways to use these metrics to target troubled areas for improvement, and to decide what remedies to apply, and where’s the best place to apply them. I help define work flows and processes that reduce the risk of failure in IT projects, teach others about best practices in software engineering, and just generally try to build an environment where people can experience increasing success and growing confidence.
My undergraduate and post-grad education is in psychology and the adult levels of consciousness development.
All in all, I’m into understanding how we make meaning of our world, why we make the decisions we do, and how people can be helped to find a better alternative when their decisions aren’t getting them what they want.
I’ve worked in IT all my life; when I learned coding, it was on keypunch cards. The modern computing world is a miracle. And Bill Gates deserves his millions. lol!
